STATE CME REQUIREMENTS
Currently, Alabama requires 25 Category I Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours annually.  CME hours may roll over one year to meet the next year requirement.  Please refer to the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners website for the most up to date information and for explanation of roll over CME hours.

How to Obtain a DEA License
The Alabama of Physician Assistants (ASPA) is proud to inform all physician assistants (PAs) in the state how to complete the requirements for a DEA license.

1. Complete 12 hours of approved CME. This includes the four and eight hour courses offered by the Medical Society of Alabama (http://www.masalink.org) and the four hour course offered by ASPA at our annual conference.

2. Request the appropriate paperwork from the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners. Contact Randy Moore at (334) 242-4116 or rmoore@albme.org and request application for Qualified Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate (QACSC).

3. Once a PA has completed steps 1 and 2 and received their QACSC license, then he or she must complete the necessary paperwork for their DEA license. This application is online at Error! Hyperlink reference not valid..

The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners has completed the necessary paperwork for the physician assistants in Alabama to start submitting their application to the DEA.

ASPA would like to thank all those involved for their help in making this privilege a reality.
